    About Us

The Noble & Cooley Center for Historic Preservation was established in 2007 with a goal to create a museum to preserve and present the rich history of Granville and the surrounding hill towns. The museum is located in the historically significant buildings of the Noble & Cooley Co which was founded 170 years ago as a toy drum company. The buildings and original equipment at the site offer a unique opportunity to experience "Yankee Ingenuity" as it impacted manufacturing in the mid-1800's forward. The museum demonstrates to evolution of power sources from water to steam to electricity as well as exhibit machines used to manufacture drums over the years. The NCCHP Museum is open for guided tours from May - October on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month from noon - 3:00. Tours can be scheduled by appointment at other times for groups of eight or more. School tours and 'Build a Drum' tours are also available. The museum has been offering monthly Living History programs since 2010. The first one each year is an old fashioned ice harvesting on the shop pond on the first Saturday in February. Other programs are in the temperate months and very popular. Preserving and presenting how our ancestors lived, worked and spent their leisure time is critical to pass on to successive generations so that the old skills, crafts and way of life don't disappear. NCCHP is keeping the drumbeat of history alive.
